Journey to the Land of Eternity – Part III

At the entrance of the temple, you will find all the regular temple shops. One thing I can’t understand is the beggers surrounding the baba temple’s. Its quite natural in any temple but in the entrance of Sai Baba temples, I notice them in a big way. We had to undergo their harassment before entering the temple. The best thing about Shirdi that’s visible(atleast visible) is that there’s no special queue, special sadha queue etc. We have to stand in the single queue that’s going through many rooms before entering into the sanctum sanctorum. All the way through the queue, we could get water tap’s to quench thirst. One glaring thing I need to mention here is the TV’s that they have placed all through the standing queue at the top to enable devotees to see the Sanctum Sanctorum. If we are telecasting live, then why this queue for?, We can telecast in the cable tv direct. We can have the darshan in the homes than waiting in the queue for hours to have the glimpse. The whole purpose is getting diluted. I notice this even in the temples of Tamil Nadu.

Since we came early to the temple, it took us around 1.5 hours to have the darshan. People who come late have to wait for around 5 hours approx, it seems. Plan yourself for an early darshan to make things comfortable. Once you have the darshan, you can go and pray at the samadhi’s of few of the direct disciples of baba. Prasadam is available at the selected counters at a reasonable price. Next in the offing will be the place where Baba used to sit in for dhyana, the hand grind he used to prepare flours, the tree bark on which he sat were preserved. The holy fire which he lit to prepare food for the poor and the needy is glowing till date. Devotees can pour ‘Sambrani’ to add their part in its eternity. The room in which Baba used to stay is adjacent to the temple.

We went all around the landmark points and I was visibly happy that atlast, the pictures on those temple walls were standing true in front of me. As we grow, challenges grow in size and magnitude which requires the support of an external power. No doubt I had an ulterior motive of requests and wishes from Baba, some genuine and many may not that I deserve. But, above all, I had a satisfaction of going through the places that I visualized once through those paintings. It can’t happen for Asterix or Obelix you know !!!!.

Journey to the Land of Eternity – Part II

I stayed in my friends apartment, situated in a locality called Magarpatta City, one of the symbols of the emerging Poona as an IT hub. There were constructions happening as in Bengaluru, clearly indicating chaos all around. The climate as far as I came to know is on the extremes. It was too hot till my last day of stay in Poona. We started our journey to Shirdi from the Poona Bus Terminus. Private tour operators, cabs are operating trips to Shirdi. So, finding means of transport should be easy. Morever there are enough Maharashtra State Transport Buses starting to Shirdi every 10 minutes. We took the government bus and it was a 5 hour long journey. Vada Paav’s and Sugarcane Juices are found everywhere all through the way. Please don’t miss those if you plan your trip via Poona.

After a tiring journey, we reached Shirdi at 11.45 pm. It was rather a touching moment when I set my foot in Shirdi. Ever since my days in P.S.Senior Secondary School, I used to visit the Shirdi Sai Baba temple nearby the school premises, though we were fearing those beggers surrounding the area. You just don’t have reasons to fall in love, the same for my devotion towards Shirdi Sai Baba. I haven’t touched the lines of fanaticism or went around convincing others to come in my terms on Baba and so, happy for that. There were paintings of the life journey of Baba all through the walls of the temple located in Mylapore, Chennai. I used to visualise those events as in the paintings. It can be compared to those Asterix and Tintin comic novels. It took few years to convince myself that what I see in those have been real incidents. My eager to visit those places gradually increased and was waiting for it to happen. It took more than a decade for me to come to Shirdi, or shall I say for Baba to give an appointment !!!!.

We stayed in a Hotel called as Anand Inn. If the pricing was bad, the service was pathetic. Its better to book a room in advance, or there are decent rooms provided by the Shirdi Temple Authorities themselves, which we came to know later. The temple was a 2 minute walk from the hotel from which we were boarding. It was a well deserved rest as the journey was too long. We had planned for an early morning darshan and woke up early to finish off your early morning duties. Now, its just 2 minutes walk to the place which I had imagined through the paintings of the temple wall !!!!

Journey to the Land of Eternity – Part I

Dad used to frequent me to Marina Beach in my childhood days. Flights to and fro Ceylon would used to fly above the seas very frequently when I was busy building sand homes with my brother and friends in the shores. We always used to wonder will there be any chance for we people to get into it. Dad told me that people having car can afford a trip, but not we people. I haven’t bought a car yet but afforded a flight trip, thanks to IT sector. After a long wait, my visit to Shirdi came true today. It has been a sabbatical wait, as I had been planning for the past many years.

I had to come down to pune to join my friend Muthu.Right from the day I booked my flight ticket, I had been waiting for the experience of flying in the skies. The day came and I went into the Bangalore Airport, nearly three hours before the take off as I was completely blindfolded over the process over the journey. After the security check up and boarding pass was issued, we were made to wait for a 30 minute delay. The moment of getting into the flight came and I was thrilled. Then came the next big surprise when my co-passenger was none other than one of the air hostess who is on her way to Delhi for some official work. Never thought my journey would be made so exciting !!!!. The moment it took off, my  ears went dumb. Thought it was not a common phenomenon until she prompted that it has something to do with the altitude.

The next one hour was a nothing less than an interesting tete -a-tete with her. She was telling the complexities involved during the training and the job related issues of an air hostess. While I was telling our industry’s dark side, it was rather convincing for both of us that no job is easy. Flight landed in Pune and when my friend came there to pick me up, he told me its 5 hours bus travel to shirdi. JUST 5 HOURS TO THE PLACE OF ETERNITY…………

Dreams and Gods !!!!

Yesterday, I had a dream which can’t be termed as nightmarish but quite odd. Instead of the street dogs that dominate bengalur, its the turn of monkeys in my dream !!!!. I was standing in the Main Road near the BTM flyover and there were human size monkeys busy jumping around, plucking fruits from the trees and dancing. But the usual characteristic of threatening people around  hich we may all face while going to a hill temple was missing. There were announcements going around like MONKEYS HAVE ENTERED FORUM, BDA COMPLEX etc. Don’t remember much after that. I woke uip and while I was discussing this with my room mate, he told me to visit Hanuman temple, maybe I have some parikaram which is remainded through this dream. Surprisingly, I have one to do in a Bengalur Anjaneyar Temple. I have heard about this scenario before long time back. Though I would like to visit Anjaneyar Temple anytime as he’s my favourite deity, just a clarification whether gods reminds us few things through dreams !!!! Any taker’s please ?
